Testing may be recommended for adults who experience:

• difficulties with concentration and maintaining attention;
• a tendency to put things off, forget agreements, or lose necessary items;
• difficulties with time management and completing tasks;
• increased distractibility;
• impulsivity in behaviour or communication;
• inner or physical restlessness and tension;
• difficulties with planning and following tasks through to completion;
• a feeling of being constantly overwhelmed by a large number of tasks;
• similar difficulties since childhood that were not previously associated with ADHD.

DIVA-5 can also be useful when it is necessary to differentiate ADHD symptoms from difficulties that may occur in anxiety or depressive disorders, sleep disorders, and other conditions.

How Does the Assessment Work?

DIVA-5 is conducted in the form of a structured interview with a specialist.

During the interview, the following are assessed:

• ADHD symptoms in adulthood
  Symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity are examined in detail.
• Childhood characteristics
  The specialist clarifies whether similar symptoms were present during childhood.
• Impact of symptoms on daily life
  The assessment considers how difficulties with attention, organisation, self-control, and impulsivity affect work, education, everyday life, and social interaction.
• Specific life situations
  Instead of formal “yes” or “no” answers, real-life examples in which the relevant difficulties occur are discussed.
• Where possible, information about the person’s behaviour and functioning during childhood is also taken into account.
