The method is approved by the US Public Health Service and the American Psychological Association. It has undergone the necessary scientific testing, which confirms the practicality, quality and effectiveness of the programme. This method is used in remedial pedagogy to address learning and behavioural problems. ABA therapy is used to work with children and adults who have peculiarities in perception and assimilation of information, speech and memory development. At this stage, ABA is one of the main methods of rehabilitation for children with autism spectrum disorders, whose effectiveness has been confirmed in the scientific literature.

In ABA therapy, we present the functions required by the child in the form of several sequential actions, each of which will be a goal for a certain period of time.

The positive effect of ABA therapy is based on the principle of conditioned reflexes: by helping the child to develop the necessary skills, we reinforce each of his or her actions with a certain reward. It can be a material reward – for example, sweets or some things that the child likes. Or emotional reward: hug the child, kiss him, clap his hands, give some positive attention.

The set of such stimuli is individual and depends on the degree of autism development. The more severe the developmental delay and the less pronounced the cognitive abilities, the more likely it is that only material stimuli will be effective at the initial stage. Conversely, if the autistic traits are not too pronounced, the therapist and parents will focus on emotional stimuli alone.

The main goal of ABA therapy is to make the child as independent and self-reliant as possible. After all, as the child develops physically, life in society will require from the child certain social skills and skills of communication with other people, realisation of various social and professional roles. Therefore, as the child acquires the simplest everyday habits, ABA therapy moves on to the development of his/her social and communicative skills, his/her interaction with peers and the immediate environment.
