The method of art therapy is used for a wide range of problems.

Especially when it comes to children with disabilities, with such diagnoses as: autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, delayed speech development, attention deficit, hyperactivity, as well as with children’s fears, phobias, neurosis, enuresis, etc.

The main tasks in working with children are:

Harmonisation of the emotional state by expressing emotions and feelings related to the experience of their problems. Development of speech activity, thinking, imagination, perception. Active search for new forms of interaction with the world.

Development of self-confidence, confirmation of one’s individuality, uniqueness, significance.

The significance of this method lies in the fact that the art-therapeutic environment is psychologically safe, non-judgemental, free. It does not require possession of any abilities in visual arts or artistic skills.

The process of art therapy evokes positive emotions in children, helps to overcome passivity and lack of initiative, and promotes the formation of a more active life position.

The child experiences satisfaction that arises as a result of revealing hidden skills and their development. Being a means of non-verbal (i.e. wordless) communication, art therapy is especially valuable for those who do not have a good command of speech, who find it difficult to express their thoughts in words.

The forms and methods of work are selected individually depending on the objectives of the course and the age of the child.

The art therapist uses techniques of working with colours, plasticine, paper, drawing on sand, working with “kinetic” sand, etc. For children who are beginning to speak, an important point is to stimulate speech in the process of creativity.

Individual classes with children are held on average 2 times a week for 40-45 minutes.
