EEG for a child

Electroencephalography is a method of graphic registration of brain biopotentials, which allows to analyse its physiological maturity and condition, the presence of focal lesions, general cerebral disorders and their nature.

Usually EEG is performed on children in situations when parents or a doctor notices in the child’s behaviour such conditions:

  • fainting or episodes of seizures – to exclude or confirm the diagnosis of epilepsy;
  • in the case of sleep disorders in children, especially sleepwalking (sleepwalking) – to understand the cause
  • when a child is mentally, verbally and emotionally retarded;
  • during the period of recovery from brain injuries;
  • in all forms of epilepsy – for diagnosis and treatment monitoring

What parents need to know, how to prepare for the procedure?

The EEG procedure is absolutely safe and can be performed at any age.

For the procedure, a rubber cap with electrode contacts is placed on the patient’s head, and a specialist applies a special gel to the electrode contacts beforehand.

The procedure of routine (ordinary) EEG takes 15 minutes.

No special preparation is required, it is recommended to wash the head before the study for better contact of electrodes.
